      do you think this is the first Malay BG we will see (or has there been others which i don't know of?)

      since Comd 6 Div is a BG held appt by estab, I think COL Ishak will be promoted.

      Side note, anyone knows if former Comd 6 Div BG Lim Teck Yin is a Commando? I have rarely seen a commando promoted to BG. urban myth has it that CDOs are not allowed to assume general rank leadership....

      BG Lim Teck Yin got his red beret around 1981-82.

      yeap COL Ishak will get his stars. First malay to make it to a star man. hardly surprising thou, he was a good man. during his time BMTC is a great place.

      BG LIM TY is a commando by vocation but after assuming appointment of CO 42SAR, he has been holding on his black beret ever since..A former national water polo player, he was Commander SCSC and now assumes appointment of Commander TRADOC... COL Ishak was my direct superior during my NS time briefly...A guardsmen by vocation, he was Commander AOAS, Commander BMTC and former G3...and now by assuming appointment of Comd 6Div, he is on track of his star due next year...both have been in SAFTI MI..each commanding officers of advanced schools...

      maybe he started wearing again..when i saw him in SAFTI, he was still wearing black beret..i think appointment-wise as a Div Comd, he wore back his red beret... like COL Ishak who wore his khaki beret in SAFTI but wore the green beret subsequently in BMTC....BG LIM, i think, on track with BG Tung and BG Chan for the COA spot...

      than go become CEO of GLC company.

      Anyone noes Chua Chwee koh, Chin Pei Chen, Goh kok Huat, Chan Chun Sing...?

      i know Chan Chun Sing, my ex comd. think he got the highest possibility to be next COA.

      Yup, he is  - he was my OC buring BMT, and then rotated out to be replaced by Ng Heng Chew.

      As for CDOs getting BG rank, Philip Lim's already a BG.  He was my company 2 i/c when I RODd, and frankly I thought Lim Teck Yin should have gotten his star first.

      ng heng chew sounds familiar...was he CO SISPEC wasn't he?

      in any case I know Phillip Lim (former ACGS) was a commando, but i heard he switched to wearing a black beret when he was in his CO tour. Not sure what colour beret he wears...

      i can 100% confirm BG lim wears a red beret, cos i was there for his coc parade and all the while this year he wore red, he became bg around ndp that time

      BG Lim TY underwent his AOCC in the mid 90s and posted to 46SAR as CO after his conversion ... I believe his AOCC was a superficial one just to familarise him on voice command and fighting techniques in an Ultra M113 vehicle. During his stinct at 46SAR, he continued to don his red beret and I think was being told off by a higher rank officer (this is what I heard from the ATC trainers when back for ICT). He then changed to wear a black one after that incident.

      He moved up later on as brigade commander but did not manage to climb further to become CAO as during that regime, there are Bernard Tan and Wong Ann Chai waiting to take over Desmond Kwek or Ong Boon Hwee (can't remember which exactly) when either relinguish the role of CAO.
